SM Seaside Crowd Witnesses Creamline’s Winning Start

Creamline began its PVL title defense with a 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 sweep of Akari in Cebu on Saturday. Jema Galanza scored 16 points as 19,106 spectators filled SM Seaside Cebu Arena for the season opener.

Creamline Starts Title Defense With Commanding Sweep

Jonash Dannug of Tiebreaker Times covered Creamline’s opening victory, played before a record crowd at the Cebu venue. The defending champions finished the straight-set contest in one hour and 27 minutes against the Akari Chargers.

Creamline took the first set 25-18, then held off Akari’s second-set comeback to win that frame 25-21. The Cool Smashers closed the match with another 25-18 set, completing their first Siklab Series assignment without dropping one. Coach Sherwin Meneses welcomed the record attendance after Creamline secured its opening victory before thousands of Cebuano supporters.

“Sobrang saya kasi ‘yung Creamline kasama na naman sa history ng PVL. Masaya kami kasi ‘yung Creamline nandiyan ulit, tapos nanalo pa,” Meneses said.

Cool Smashers Complete Sweep in 87 Minutes

Creamline led the second set 21-12 before Akari scored seven consecutive points to narrow the margin considerably. The Chargers also rallied during the third set, but Creamline finished the match on Michele Gumabao’s attack.

Galanza Sets Tone With Complete Performance

Galanza led all scorers with 16 points, alongside 14 excellent receptions and eight excellent digs against Akari. The league’s official statistics credited her with 11 attacks, three blocks, and two service aces in Cebu.

Creamline received points from 12 players, including seven from Jeanette Panaga and six from Michele Gumabao. Ishie Lalongisip and Bea De Leon scored five apiece, while Tots Carlos and Alyssa Valdez added four each.

Twelve Creamline Players Contribute Points

The scoring list extended beyond Galanza, with six named teammates contributing between four and seven points each. That spread accompanied Creamline’s 46 successful attacks, compared with 32 recorded by Akari during the three sets.

Creamline Depth Fits Siklab All-to-Play Format

Jia De Guzman recorded 16 excellent sets in her first appearance for Creamline during the new season. Jennifer Nierva supplied 14 excellent digs and six excellent receptions, adding another measurable contribution from the backcourt.

Coach Sherwin Meneses discussed the conference’s all-to-play format, which requires teams to use their available personnel. He pointed to the number of players on Creamline’s roster while emphasizing contributions throughout the entire conference.

“Sobrang laki niyang tulong kasi, for example, ‘yung game ngayon, naging team effort ‘yung pagkapanalo namin. Actually, kami yata ‘yung may pinakamaraming players, so ‘yung buong conference is dapat talaga maging teamwork kasi all-to-play ‘yung conference,” Meneses said.

De Guzman and Nierva Strengthen Rotation

Meneses also said players must contribute whenever selected, rather than treating a place in the lineup as sufficient. Creamline’s opener featured 12 different scorers, while De Guzman and Nierva contributed through setting and floor defense.

“Kailangan i-adapt namin ‘yun. Malaking bagay sa amin na lahat ng players namin talagang nagko-contribute kapag pinapasok. Talagang kailangan nilang magtrabaho kapag ma-lineup sila. Malaking bagay sa amin,” he added.

Akari Struggles Against Creamline’s Balanced Attack

Akari’s Ivy Lacsina scored 12 points and registered seven excellent receptions during the straight-set opening defeat. Fifi Sharma contributed seven points, but Creamline finished with more successful attacks, blocks, and service aces.

Creamline held a 46-32 advantage in attacks, an 8-3 edge in blocks, and a 4-3 lead in aces. Those official team totals provide a clearer picture of the result than the final three-set score alone.

Both Teams Prepare for Their Next PVL Assignments

Akari was scheduled to face Capital1 on October 15 at Ynares Center in Antipolo following the defeat. Creamline’s next listed opponent was Galeries Tower on October 17 at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Record 19,106 Fans Attend Creamline-Akari Match

The 19,106 spectators at SM Seaside Cebu Arena established a new attendance record for the Cebu venue. Creamline’s title-defense opener formed part of a volleyball program featuring women’s PVL and men’s Spikers’ Turf matches.

Meneses welcomed the milestone after Creamline won before the record crowd, linking the occasion with another league achievement. The defending champions began their All-Filipino campaign with a sweep while playing before the largest audience recorded there.

Cebu Attendance Sets New PVL Venue Record

The PVL’s Siklab Series opened during the league’s 10th season, introducing the all-to-play requirement for participating teams. The shared Cebu program also featured Choco Mucho’s five-set victory over Capital1 earlier on the opening day.

Analytical Breakdown: A Roster Built for the Long Season

Creamline’s depth fits Siklab perfectly because lineup changes did not compromise its attacking efficiency, blocking pressure, or defensive stability. Galanza’s two-way production and De Guzman’s distribution provided reliable structure while Meneses spread meaningful opportunities throughout his roster. Maintaining that balance across rotating combinations could become Creamline’s defining advantage as the extended All-Filipino campaign grows more demanding.
