By defeating the PLDT High Speed Hitters in Game 1 of their semifinal showdown, Petro Gazz Angels is one victory away from reaching the PVL All-Filipino Conference Finals.
Jonah Sabete, who led the way for the Angels, with a stellar stat line of 18 points on 14 attacks, 3 blocks, and an ace.
But Sabete was not too pleased with her performance. Sabete claimed that she still had some timing issues and could not perform moves precisely as she had been able to in practice.
“Actually, hindi pa ako masiyadong nakikita ‘yung sarili ko na, kasi iba sa training. Parang sa game, iba rin ako. Parang nakukulangan pa ako sa sarili ko talaga,”
Sabete promised to keep improving despite her outstanding production in order to make up for her acknowledged flaws.
“Yung timing ko wala pa talaga, ‘di ko makita. Siguro yun na talaga rin ‘yung kailangan kong trabahuhin. So, yun lang ang mindset ko, timing tsaka trabaho.”
A sweep seems possible if Sabete performs even better in Game 2 and Petro Gazz receives strong performances from their tried-and-true players. MJ Philipps, Remy Palma, Aiza Manzo-Pontillas, and Grethcel Soltones, who contributed 17, 14, 13, and 10 points, respectively, to Petro Gazz’s triumph in Game 1.
Meanwhile, Jovie Prado topscored PLDT with 18 points. Nonetheless, count on the High Speed Hitters to do every effort to survive in Game 2.
Game 2 of the Petro Gazz vs. PLDT semis battle is slated on Tuesday at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.
