The Converge FiberXers announced on Tuesday, November 7, that Willie Miller has joined the coaching staff.
Converge team governor Archen Cayabyab said in a statement, “After his playing career, Willie has been passionate about coaching at the grassroots level. It’s really his passion. So when we got to talk to him and asked if he could be part of our staff, he did not hesitate to say yes to us.”
Miller is expected to mentor the squad’s young guards, Alec Stockton, Mac Tallo, and Schonny Winston, according to the team.
“We’re thrilled to have Willie Miller join our coaching staff at Converge FiberXers. His unparalleled experience and exceptional skills as a guard in the PBA will be a game-changer for our young talents. With Coach Willie’s guidance, our guards are poised for remarkable growth and development,” stated Jacob Lao, team manager of the FiberXers.
Miller, who was selected first overall in the 2001 Draft, had an incredible career, becoming one of just nine players in PBA history to win multiple MVP awards. He played for fourteen seasons for six different teams.
By this addition, Miller is reunited with medical staff members Facundo Sun, Gus Vargas, and Mike Braga, as well as assistant team manager CK Kanapi-Daniolco, who were all formerly employed by the Alaska group in Converge.
Miller was formerly associated with Cayabyab and Converge coach at Colegio de San Juan de Letran. In addition, he and Cayabyab have the same hometown in Olongapo.
“Me and Willie grew up together in Olongapo. Then, we went to Manila together after high school. That is where we met Coach Aldin (Ayo) at Letran. We did not expect that even in the PBA, we would still be together,” Cayabyab remarked.
