At the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, the Meralco Bolts defeated the Magnolia Hotshots, 113-107, in overtime to advance to the 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals.
Before the Bolts went on a 7-0 run, an Aaron Black jumper sent the game into overtime. The Hotshots led 96-89.
With 1:47 remaining, the score was tied at 103 when Bong Quinto’s three-pointer gave the Bolts enough breathing room to win in the final minute.
When the Bolts finally gained control in extra time and earned the final spot in the semifinals, along with TNT, Barangay Ginebra, and San Miguel Beer, Meralco import KJ Mcdaniels hit another triple to extend their lead.
Mcdaniels scored 27 points and 10 rebounds in the escape, while Chris Newsome finished with 33 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Black and Chris Banchero both contributed 16 points.
