With a 25-23, 25-16, 25-21 victory over Nxled at the Philsports Arena in Pasig on Thursday night, November 23, the Creamline Cool Smashers advanced to the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference semifinals. With three more victories, Cool Smashers can sweep the elims.
The Cool Smashers overcame the Chameleons’ tough opposition in the first set and won their eighth straight game. This ended the Chameleons’ dreams of mounting a comeback.
With 14 points, including 11 on attacks, Jema Galanza top scored the Cool Smashers, while Michele Gumabao and Tots Carlos continued their big-hitting ways, finishing with 12 markers apiece.
The reigning champions won the match in one hour and twenty-five minutes thanks in part to the seven points that skipper Alyssa Valdez scored in a two-set stretch.
In the later match, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans outscored the PLDT High Speed Hitters, winning 25-20, 23-25, 18-25, 25-17, and 15-12 to secure the second spot in the semifinals.
The Flying Titans rallied from a 1-2 deficit with two significant surges in the middle of the game and at the end of the fourth to win the highly-contested match. They also extended their winning streak to eight games.
Sisi Rondina, who led Choco Mucho’s comeback in the fourth set, scored twenty points, while Isa Molde finished with fifteen, and Madayag starred with eighteen. PLDT’s Savannah Davison scored thirty-one points, while Royse Tubino contributed sixteen points. Erika Santos finished with thirteen marks.
