UST, AdMU remain unbeaten before clash in UAAP Season 85 Tennis Tour

On Sunday at the Felcisimo Ampon Tennis Center in Malate, Manila, University of Santo Tomas beat Adamson University in a 5-0 sweep to maintain its unblemished record in the UAAP Season 85 Men’s Tennis competition.

With a quick 6-1, 6-2 victory over Emmanuel Pedrosa in the opening singles round, Nilo Ledama led the Tennisters. To prevent Jefrey Burgos and Ramon Bentillo from pulling off the upset, John Sonsona and Vince Serino had to rally from a set down, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Ericjay Tangub defeated Launce Encinares 6-1, 6-0 to give UST the tie-breaking advantage.

With four ties, UST kept its perfect record.

In contrast, National University was defeated by Ateneo de Manila University 3-2 in the rematch of the UAAP Season 81 Finals.

Nio Tria defeated Jules Lazaro in the second singles match, which was decisive, 7-5, 6-1, giving the Blue Eagles’ three singles players victories.

On Wednesday at noon, the Blue Eagles and Tennisters will face off over the lone lead.

After a 5-0 victory over De La Salle University, University of the East maintained its lead over UST and Ateneo with a 3-1 record. Jarell Edangga returned to winning ways by defeating EJ Geluz 6-3, 7-6.

National University defeated De La Salle 4-1 to take the sole lead at 3-0 in the women’s division.

After a victory over Aubrey Calma at 7-5, 6-2, Danna Abad put an end to the reigning queens’ humiliation after her defeat on Saturday.

The main news of the day was Ateneo’s 3-2 triumph over the previously unbeaten UST, giving them their first win of the year.

Princess Gom-os retired at 4-5 in the first set, and the Blue Eagles won the second singles match thanks to Tracy Llamas. Althea Ong finished the surprise with a convincing 6-1, 6-3 victory over Princess Dela Rita.

UST’s record dropped to 2-2, while Ateneo improved to 1-2.
